Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to developing a kind of acoustic metamaterial with wide frequency band especially in low frequency region. At the same time, its the tunability of sound insulation frequency is achieved.
Design/methodology/approach
A three-dimensional (3D) acoustic metamaterial consisting of rigid frame, spherical attachment and thin film is proposed. The material parameters and the effect of the attachment hole on the forbidden band are investigated by finite element simulation. The sound insulation effect of the structure is validated by the combination of simulation and experiment.
Findings
The results show that the elastic modulus of the structural material determines the initial frequency of the forbidden band of the proposed 3D acoustic metamaterials. The lower the elastic modulus of the structural material, the lower the initial frequency of the forbidden band. The material parameters of the frame mainly affect the initial frequency of the first forbidden band, and the material parameters of the attachment will affect both the initial and termination frequency of the first forbidden band. Holes in the attachments reduce the band gap width. The characteristic curve moves down with the increase of subtracted mass.
Research limitations/implications
The findings may greatly benefit the application of the acoustic metamaterials in the fields of sound insulation and noise reduction.
Originality/value
This acoustic metamaterial structure has excellent sound insulation performance. At the same time, the single cell structure can be assembled into any shape. The structure can achieve sound selective filtering and combination control.

Abstract
Purpose
In community question and answer (CQA) services, because of user subjectivity and the limits of knowledge, the distribution of answer quality can vary drastically – from highly related to irrelevant or even spam answers. Previous studies of CQA portals have faced two important issues: answer quality analysis and spam answer filtering. Therefore, the purposes of this study are to filter spam answers in advance using two-phase identification methods and then automatically classify the different types of question and answer (QA) pairs by deep learning. Finally, this study proposes a comprehensive study of answer quality prediction for different types of QA pairs.
Design/methodology/approach
This study proposes an integrated model with a two-phase identification method that filters spam answers in advance and uses a deep learning method [recurrent convolutional neural network (R-CNN)] to automatically classify various types of questions. Logistic regression (LR) is further applied to examine which answer quality features significantly indicate high-quality answers to different types of questions.
Findings
There are four prominent findings. (1) This study confirms that conducting spam filtering before an answer quality analysis can reduce the proportion of high-quality answers that are misjudged as spam answers. (2) The experimental results show that answer quality is better when question types are included. (3) The analysis results for different classifiers show that the R-CNN achieves the best macro-F1 scores (74.8%) in the question type classification module. (4) Finally, the experimental results by LR show that author ranking, answer length and common words could significantly impact answer quality for different types of questions.
Originality/value
The proposed system is simultaneously able to detect spam answers and provide users with quick and efficient retrieval mechanisms for high-quality answers to different types of questions in CQA. Moreover, this study further validates that crucial features exist among the different types of questions that can impact answer quality. Overall, an identification system automatically summarises high-quality answers for each different type of questions from the pool of messy answers in CQA, which can be very useful in helping users make decisions.

Abstract
This paper gives a review of the finite element techniques (FE) applied in the area of material processing. The latest trends in metal forming, non‐metal forming, powder metallurgy and composite material processing are briefly discussed. The range of applications of finite elements on these subjects is extremely wide and cannot be presented in a single paper; therefore the aim of the paper is to give FE researchers/users only an encyclopaedic view of the different possibilities that exist today in the various fields mentioned above. An appendix included at the end of the paper presents a bibliography on finite element applications in material processing for 1994‐1996, where 1,370 references are listed. This bibliography is an updating of the paper written by Brannberg and Mackerle which has been published in Engineering Computations, Vol. 11 No. 5, 1994, pp. 413‐55.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to design and validate a theoretical model for capacitive imaging (CI) sensors that incorporates the interelectrode shielding and surrounding shielding electrodes. Through experimental verification, the effectiveness of the theoretical model in evaluating CI sensors equipped with shielding electrodes has been demonstrated.
Design/methodology/approach
The study begins by incorporating the interelectrode shielding and surrounding shielding electrodes of CI sensors into the theoretical model. A method for deriving the semianalytical model is proposed, using the renormalization group method and physical model. Based on random geometric parameters of CI sensors, capacitance values are calculated using both simulation models and theoretical models. Three different types of CI sensors with varying geometric parameters are designed and manufactured for experimental testing.
Findings
The study’s results indicate that the errors of the semianalytical model for the CI sensor are predominantly below 5%, with all errors falling below 10%. This suggests that the semianalytical model, derived using the renormalization group method, effectively evaluates CI sensors equipped with shielding electrodes. The experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of the theoretical model in accurately predicting the capacitance values of the CI sensors.
Originality/value
The theoretical model of CI sensors is described by incorporating the interelectrode shielding and surrounding shielding electrodes into the model. This comprehensive approach allows for a more accurate evaluation of the detecting capability of CI sensors, as well as optimization of their performance.

Abstract
Purpose
This study explores the integration of smallholder farmers into the export market in Vietnam, an emerging economy. By introducing a prospective framework, we seek to provide insight into factors that influence this integration process.
Design/methodology/approach
This study examines the expected growth and entry of Vietnamese smallholder farmers into high-value export markets. We collected information from 200 independent farmers as well as from five local extension workers, who provided information on 50 farmers.
Findings
The study reveals that the adoption of new business models is more influential than the variables traditionally included in models of export-market integration in predicting expected growth and entry into high-value export markets. In addition, the results highlight divergent views between farmers and extension workers regarding the role of collectors, with farmers perceiving collectors as potential partners, while extension workers see them as impediments to growth.
Research limitations/implications
The prospective model presented in this study highlights the importance of policy interventions aimed at promoting new business models and addressing infrastructure and capital constraints for the sustainable transformation of agricultural sectors in emerging markets.
Originality/value
This is one of the first articles to apply a prospective approach to export-market integration and demonstrate its efficacy through an empirical study. The suggested prospective approach could facilitate the design of policies aimed at export-market integration within the context of dynamic, emerging markets.
